Ernestine Louise Rose (January 13, 1810 – August 4, 1892) was an atheist, feminist, and abolitionist. She was one of the major intellectual forces behind the women's rights movement in nineteenth-century America.

She was born on January 13, 1810, in Piotrków Trybunalski, Russia-Poland, as Ernestine Louise Polowsky. Her father was a rich rabbi and her mother the daughter of a wealthy businessman..

Martin died in January 14, 2006. She and I never met in this life; perhaps we will in another. Her husband Franc Sloan generously agreed to share two letters he wrote to family and friends about her departure from this world (fittingly, on a big red horse).

Alice Stokes Paul (January 11, 1885 – July 9, 1977) was an American suffragette and activist.

Along with Lucy Burns and others, she led a successful campaign for women's suffrage that resulted in the passage of the Nineteenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution in 1920.
