How You Can Get a Perfect Work/Life Balance
A perfect work life balance is the dream of many working women. Whether you’re working while raising a family, studying online, such as through online doctoral nursing programs, whilst working full time or looking after children, or just working a busy job and making time for your friends and family, finding time to fit it all in, and have some time for yourself can be difficult. Here are some tips to help you.
Look at Your Career
Is your job taking up all your time? If you are working long, unsociable hours and its affecting your home life, have a chat with your employer and see if there’s any way to make some changes. If there’s not, maybe it’s time for a new start. It’s never too late to retrain or complete further education. Consider a career in healthcare or teaching, which can offer a lot of flexibility. If you are already trained as a nurse, a nurse practitioner doctorate degree would give you further options.
Part-Time Work or Study
If you can afford it, part-time work can be a great option to give you more of a balance, especially if you have children. A lot of companies now offer options such as a job share, or even working a few days a week from home. If you are studying, consider an online program, such as one of the online doctoral nursing programs, to give you much greater flexibility when you need it.
Leave Work at Work
Once you clock out, or leave the building, leave work behind. Try not to think about it. Leave any worries or stresses at the door. Sometimes this may be difficult, so have a good vent when you first get home, then let it go for the rest of the night. Do something to take your mind off it. Don’t keep checking your work emails at home, and don’t plan what you must do the next day. Stop.
If you work from home it can often be difficult to escape the work mood. To aid this, try to work in a home office, or even just at a desk in another room. Don’t go back there once you’ve finished for the day. Try to keep your work area separate.
Take a Break
The occasional break from everything, whether this is a vacation, a spa break, or just a good night out, will make you realize what you’ve got, any why you’re doing it. You’ll return to work feeling refreshed.
Accept Help
If someone offers to babysit, let them. If your husband offers to do the washing, let him. Ask for help if you need it. The best thing you can do is accept that you can’t do it all alone. You do need help, and that’s ok.
