Catherine Destivelle (Mountaineer/First Woman to Climb Eiger's North Face Solo)

catherine_destivelle.jpgCatherine Monique Suzanne Destivelle (born 24 July 1960) is an Algeria-born French rock climber and mountaineer.

In 1992 she became the first woman to complete a solo ascent of the Eiger's north face. She completed the climb in winter in 15 hours.

Her other notable climbs include the Bonatti Route on the north face of the Matterhorn and the southwest pillar of the Aiguille du Dru (the Bonatti Pillar).

Rosalind Franklin (Biophysicist/Physicist/Chemist/Biologist)

rosalind-franklin.jpgRosalind Elsie Franklin (25 July 1920 – 16 April 1958) was a British biophysicist, physicist, chemist, biologist and X-ray crystallographer who made critical contributions to the understanding of the fine molecular structures of DNA, RNA, viruses, coal and graphite.

Franklin is still best known for her work on the X-ray diffraction images of DNA.
