I'm Gonna Ride On Into The Next Town

imani coppolaBeing a vagabond and a nomad, (a cowgirl on the road as it were), has its up and downs.

On the one hand, travel is all about adventure, experiencing new stuff, and often being outside of your comfort zone – love those bits. Living out of a suitcase, on the other, can quickly become quite tedious – hate that part.

After being "on the road," for almost two months now (in UK, Croatia and Canada), I've settled in Calgary, Alberta, for a couple of weeks of R&R with my family of friends, after having spent three weeks with my birth family (mainly my Mom, who has since become a YouTube star who expounds her heartfelt views on human rights and the like).

“Friends are the family you choose,” has a lot of meaning for me, and I’m thoroughly enjoying re-connecting with people I’ve known for decades, as well as deepening ties with others recently met.

Calgary is a pretty cool place (I lived here for about 10 years before moving to the UAE in 1993). It’s a modern, dynamic city with a sometimes-boom-and-bust economy that makes it an exciting place to be.

It was host to the 1988 Winter Olympic Games, and is home to the world’s most famous rodeo – the Calgary Stampede, dubbed "the greatest outdoor show on earth" – which draws hundreds of thousands of people from around the world each summer. They come to experience all things “western,” and transform themselves into cowgirls and cowboys for a day or two.

When I re-stumbled upon this 1997 tune called "Legend of a Cowgirl" by Imani Coppola this morning, I thought it perfect for the place, the time and my frame of mind (not to mention the fact that it’s got AMAZING WOMAN and adventure travel written all over it!).

I love the lyrics: “Gonna see all the wonders of the universe...A female legend with a song... I'm a woman on fire with huge desire…” (see more below)

And the funky back-up dancers? Yeeeehawwww !!! As we say here in Calgary.

Legend of a Cowgirl: the definitive on-the-road tune for amazing women :)

Legend Of A Cowgirl lyrics (Imani Coppola)

I'm gonna drink my whiskey
I'm gonna have my man
I know you got nothing to say
I'm gonna have my man
Gonna steal their hearts
and save them for another day
Ain't gonna hang my hat
Ain't gonna take off my boots
Ain't nothing gonna stop me in my pursuit
My stage, time to rehearse
Gonna see all the wonders of the universe
CH: Pack my bags and mount my horse
I'm gonna ride on into the next town
Spend all my money on absolutely nothing
Need no man to pay for anything
Ain't got no shame, nobody knows my name
I'm gonna ride on into the next town
Pecos Bill, couldn't hang for long
A female legend with a song
Such a beautiful day, Such a beautiful day
I think I'll wear my brand new negligee
I'll probably change my mind
It happens every time
Just speak to my ex-fiance
I'm gonna hunt the hunter, gonna serve'em well done
Nowhere to hide, nowhere to run
Up goes the moon, down goes the sun
Cook my dinner while I shine my gun
CH: Pack my bags and mount my horse
I'm gonna ride on into the next town
Spend all my money on absolutely nothing
Cause there ain't no thing like chickenwing
Ain't got no shame, nobody knows my name
I'm gonna ride on into the next town
Pecos Bill, couldn't hang for long
A female legend with a song
I'd give my life to be her
I'd give my live just to be her
I'd give my sight to see her
I'd give my sight just to see her
So here's the way I'm gonna break it down
Speak my mind any time 'cause I got the master plan
Power in my soul, strength from my hand
I'm going up north to claim my land
Won't settle by river, might make me shiver
So look out and hide your fans
I'm a woman on fire with huge desire
To be as good as any man
CH: Pack my bags and mount my horse
I'm gonna ride on into the next town
Spend all my money on absolutely nothing
Need no man to pay for anything
Ain't got no shame, nobody knows my name
I'm gonna ride on into the next town
Pecos Bill, couldn't hang for long
A female legend with a song.......
