How To Submit To AWR

Categories // Contribute / Submit Stuff

There’s unlimited space on AWR for the gazillions of amazing women around the world, and AWR happily posts material from friends, fans, and followers. The more the merrier! But I need you to support me in return.

Featured AWR_Forbes_150As a one-woman show, I am overwhelmed with requests and material, and I must pay people to post stuff for me.  That's why I am only now able to post your blog posts, articles, promos etc, if you either supply publicity to AWR in kind => => => (e.g. by posting my "Featured on AWR" banner on your blog or site), or buy a small amount of advertising space on AWR. The unfortunate reality is that I can't afford to post  articles for free anywmore after having done so for three years :(

To get your stuff (i.e. stories, tributes, news items, poetry, photographs, music, inspiration, humour, etc.) on the site, you need to send it to me in way that makes it fast and easy to upload (I'm overworked and underpaid LOL).

The process is straightforward, here's what to do:

1) Find where your material fits

Explore the site. There are eight main menu items, all of which have submenus. That means there are 25 different places that might fit your stuff. It may even fit in more than one place…

If you want to share profiles, stories or tributes of particular women, they will likely fit in one of these sections:

AWR also accepts guest blog posts; here are some examples:

Lists, or "top 10" type articles, are really popular, get lots of traffic, and are easy for me to promote. There are several types of list articles: tips, how to's, resources,  interesting items, images, logos, and the like. Here are some examples of those kinds of articles:

News items go here: Women In The News (surprise, surprise!). Poetry and short stories fit under Poetry & Prose on the main menu. Causes, volunteerism, petitions and the like belong under ACTION on the main menu.

If your stuff doesn't fit in any of these categories, take a look around the site and see where it might fit in.

2) Write, style and format your material to fit

Model your material on the other articles in the section that you think best fits the material you want to post. Follow the format and style of those articles. (I wish I had time to  edit your contribution, but sadly I don't, so your stuff should come to me ready to post.)

3) Include URLs for your links

I'm happy to include links back to your blog, website, Facebook page, and/or Twitter account. But please provide the URLs, if I have search for the URLs, I probably won't, which means your article won't get posted. Include a maximum of three URLs/links per article, except in the case some kinds of list articles (like this one of online resources to empower girls), where I need several URLs for every item on the list.

4) Attach (separately) a clear photo, image or video link with the article

Model your material on the other articles in the section that you think best fits the material you want to post. Follow the format and style of those articles. (I wish I had time to  edit your contribution, but sadly I don't, so your stuff should come to me ready to post.)

5) Include short (75-100 words) bio blurb & pic of you

Here's an example of the kind of bio I need to accompany a submission:

Uzma Atcha (aka @LHjunkie) is a 21-year-old firecracker, blogger and activist living in the UAE. She writes for Mideast Youth, manages the March 18 Movement campaign, and supremely commands Mideast Tunes, a platform for regional underground musicians and the subject of this article . Find her on Twitter or Facebook; read her recent AWR guest blog post here: Give Me Something To Defend.

Here's another one:

Karachi-born Muslim American Author Dilara Hafiz holds degrees from John Hopkins University and the London School of Economics. She has drawn upon her years of teaching weekend Islamic school, lecturing about Islam, and raising Muslim teenagers to contribute to The American Muslim Teenager’s Handbook, which she co-wrote with her daughter Yasmine and her son Imran.

6) Email the above to: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

Featured AWR_Forbes_150Remember: you either need to provide me publicity in kind on your site AND run my "Featured on AWR" banner.

OR you need to buy a small amount of advertising space on AWR.

P.S. Please be patient if your article, poem, story or video doesn't appear immediately. It will once you send me the link showing my banner is on your site or blog and/or you purchase a square or medium rectangle ad.

Note: if you send me material that does not conform to the guidelines above in any way, I will NOT be able to publish it :(
